From Myanmar to Swarthmore: A Success Prep Scholar’s Path to Academic Distinction

We are pleased to share yet another success story from one of our dedicated students who has completed our comprehensive academic programs and gained admission to a prestigious institution.
We proudly introduce Ms. Kate Hseng (also known as Nang Nang Onn Hseng), an exemplary student from Myanmar who has diligently participated in our SAT Online Classes and College Application Workshop Program for nearly a year and a half.
📌 College Acceptance and Scholarship
Kate has been admitted to Swarthmore College, one of the top-ranked liberal arts colleges in the United States—ranked #3 among National Liberal Arts Colleges and #5 among Best Value Schools.
With an acceptance rate of just 7%, Swarthmore stands as one of the most selective institutions in the country. Uniquely, it offers both a strong liberal arts education and an engineering program.
Kate was awarded a highly competitive scholarship package totaling approximately USD $315,924 over four years, equivalent to about USD $78,981 per year. She has been accepted into the Pre-Medical track with a concentration in Biology, her primary academic interest.
📌 How Kate Found Success Prep
Kate was a student at Thalun International School in Yangon, Myanmar, when she was introduced to Success Prep. The recommendation came through the parents of Wai Yan Win Aung, a former student of Thalun who was admitted to Dartmouth College, an Ivy League institution, after participating in our programs.
Curious about the effectiveness of our College Application Workshop, Kate and her family initiated an online consultation with me, the founder of Success Prep. After having their questions thoroughly addressed, they entrusted Kate's college application journey to our guidance.
📌 A Personalized College Application Strategy
Working closely with Kate, we tailored her college application to align with her academic passion in Biology, ensuring she applied to institutions best suited to her goals. She demonstrated exceptional commitment by completing all assignments, essays, and research tasks assigned during the program. Additionally, she maintained a high GPA and excelled across her academic subjects.
📌 Leadership and Extracurricular Involvement
Beyond academics, Kate co-founded a student-led organization called Hlaing Thar Yar Kids with her peer, Angela Tin (currently admitted to Boston College with a full scholarship). Through this initiative, they offered weekly tutoring sessions in English and other subjects to underprivileged children.
At school, Kate was actively involved in leadership roles, including:
President of the Thalun Student Council
Captain of the Varsity Volleyball and Varsity Girls’ Soccer teams
Vice President of the Community Service Club

Her achievements reflect the result of balancing academic excellence, extracurricular involvement, and service commitments—all while preparing for standardized tests like the SAT through consistent weekly assignments.
📌 Inducted into the Success Prep Wall of Fame
In recognition of her exceptional dedication and success, Kate Hseng has been inducted into the Success Prep Wall of Fame as Spectarian 2025.
